MXS-R : the recast !

Last winter, Air Projet performed intensive modification work on the Mika Brageot’s MXS-R. This aircraft participates in the famous Red Bull Air Race, and is one of 14 aircraft competing in the Master Class.

We worked under pressure of tight delivery deadline, having only 1 month to carry out major modifications, as well as the complete preparation for the new 2018’s paintscheme.

We have opted for advanced techniques in reverse engineering, CAD and all  Computer-aided manufacturing process. The MXS-R underwent a 3D Scan in Indianapolis during the last round of the 2017 season, which allowed us to realize the design of new engine’s cowling during the 3 weeks shipping of the aircraft to our workshop . The moulds were then manufactuered thanks to a 5axis computer-aided milling machine, and final parts laminated of carbon fiber / epoxy. We also used this period to prepare the aircraft for his new painting, making sure to work continuously on the weight.

Besides the engine cowling’s manufacturing, we have profoundly modified the electrical, radio and smoke circuits. Everything has been optimized to ensure an accurate final balance. The entire aircraft has been reviewed to refine the aerodynamic’s efficiency..

Arrived in container on 14th of November, the MXS-R successfully completed its first test flights on 18th of December, an impossible performance without our expert team, more motivated than ever!
